The
Mystery of Rosacea
Rosacea
is a topic I get more questions on than I ever thought possible.
The condition involves inflammation of the small blood vessels in
the face - the capillaries. I have had friends with whom I had a
glass of wine or a snack with some kick to it, who immediately became
flushed and inflamed. Even moderate exercise or a short duration
in the steam room would bring on this condition called rosacea.
Rosacea affects about
five percent of the population, most commonly women in their forties
and menopausal, especially those of Celtic heritage and those that
are fair-skinned. It is evident by a red rash and affects the nose
and cheeks, usually in a symmetrical fashion. Some cases involve
papules (small solid bumps), pustules (inflamed, pus-filled bumps),
and/or solid, firm bumps resembling classic acne all over the cheeks
and nose. If this condition is left untreated and progresses, a
bulbous nose (similar to W.C. Fields) may develop.
The cause of rosacea
is yet to be determined, but we do know that it's a dysfunction
that primarily affects older people, and most likely has something
to do with the immune function of the skin. Many experts believe
mites or a yeast imbalance may be the culprit that wreaks havoc
at the hair follicle level. Others think it is strictly genetics,
and physiological factors are to blame. One thing is clear, we have
a condition that involves inflammation and obviously has something
to do with the immune function, or lack there of, of the skin.
MyChelle is
proud to introduce our Capillary
Calming Serum, designed to treat inflamed capillaries
and irritated skin. This unique formula, offering willow herb, arnica,
totarol, folic acid, B-12, chamomile and essential oil of blue chamomile,
to name just a few, was developed to reduce the inflammation (redness),
eliminate possible mites and yeast in the hair follicles and support
the production of DNA to heal compromised skin.
Dietary
and lifestyle recommendations:
1. Take a good antioxidant
and multivitamin daily.
2. Exercise in moderation.
3. Avoid direct sun exposure (especially on the face).
4. Limit alcohol consumption and do not smoke.
5. Avoid spicy foods.
If you follow
these recommendations and use non-irritating skin care such as the
kind MyChelle Dermaceuticals offers, you will see a reduction of
inflammation and a calmer complexion. The Capillary
Calming Serum is designed to be used after toning with
Fruit Enzyme Mist and before nourishing with your favorite MyChelle
cream.
